Joy is a respected family attorney actively involved in the Tucson legal community. She has 34 years of litigation experience and countless hours in the courtroom. She has guided hundreds of clients through difficult family problems, helping them to build new futures for themselves and their families. She has served as a private mediator, and has served the court for many years to facilitate settlement conferences.

Joy has lived in Tucson nearly 25 years. She received her Bachelor of Science from the Miami University where she was actively involved in a wide range of student issues, She was a member of an honorary scholastic fraternity and graduated in three years. After college, Joy lived in the Saudi Arabia while working for Aramco, the world’s largest oil company, and returned to California go to law school. Joy received her Juris Doctor from the prestigious Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, and accomplished it while employed full-time by Shell Oil Company. She relocated to Tucson in 1988, where she was active in alpaca ranching for many years. She served on the Board of Directors of the Humane Society of Southern Arizona for eight years.

Joy is no longer taking new family law matters, however, she is still serving the public in Estate Planning.

Christina has focused her practice in family law and has helped hundreds of individuals find peace in what is a very tumultuous time in their lives. Areas of practice include but are not limited to: divorce with children, divorce without children, paternity actions (custody actions in the absence of a marriage), child support calculations and modifications, post-decree enforcement and modification, contempt of court, order of protections, pre and post nuptial agreements, cohabitation agreements, etc.

Practicing family law requires a level of understanding that best results from personal experience. Christina is a mother of two children, and a wife of a United States Air Force combat rescue officer; she understands the unique circumstances that come with both military life and parenting young children. Christina is able to relate to the struggles that many families face on a daily basis and help them find a resolution that is best for their children’s developmental needs.

Christina is an alumni of Arizona State University and graduated in May 2014 with a Bachelors in Philosophy, two minors in Justice Studies and English Literature, and a certificate in Ethics. Christina graduated ASU Magna Cum Laude.

In May 2017, Christina graduated from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. While in law school, Christina served as the President of the Family and Juvenile Law Association for two years, and as an Article Editor for the Arizona Journal of International and Comparative Law. Christina spent the majority of her second year writing her thesis on the Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (UCCJEA), and its effect on families continuously exchanging children between the Arizona and Mexico border. This topic was and continues to be very relevant to the parenting styles that exist along the Southern Arizona region. Christina maintained membership in the Student Bar Association, Law Women’s Association, Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, and American Bar Association.

Christina also pursued work in several clinics, most notably, the Child and Family Law Clinic. During her time in the Child and Family Law Clinic, Christina represented several children in dependency cases. Christina dealt with issues such as child abuse, neglect, visitation, adoption, substance abuse, and termination of parental rights. The other clinics include: Southern Arizona Legal Aid Wills Clinic, and Southern Arizona Gender Alliance Name and Gender Marker Clinic.

Christina aimed to keep busy during her summers in law school. She clerked for Judge Bibbens (Family Law Bench, Pima County Superior Court) in Summer 2015. In Summer 2016, Christina interned for the Pima County Office of Children’s Counsel. Finally, Christina interned for Karp & Weiss, P.C. from December 2016 to May 2017.

Outside of practice, Christina is happiest when she is with her children, husband, family, and friends. Christina also enjoys snowboarding in the winter months and traveling whenever possible.

Natalie R. Cafasso

Attorney

Natalie grew up in a small town in Connecticut. She graduated from Sacred Heart University earning dual degrees; a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Natalie also competed as a Division I athlete on Sacred Heart’s Equestrian Team.

Natalie initially attended law school in New York at Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University; she finished out her legal studies at the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law. Her studies emphasized Family and Juvenile law.

Natalie’s clinical and intern experience included focuses on Women’s Justice, Orders of Protection, Child and Family Law Clinic and the Domestic Violence Clinic. She was also the Vice President of the Family and Juvenile Law Association, and as a 3L (third-year) she participated in writing an amici curiae brief for the Arizona Supreme Court case McLaughlin v. McLaughlin, a seminal case in applying paternity statutes in a gender-neutral context. Natalie graduated with a certificate in Family and Juvenile Law, recognition of her concentration in Family Law during her academic career.

Natalie started as a Law Clerk during law school and has practiced exclusively Family Law. Natalie has been with Elkins and Muir since spring of 2021. Natalie’s view is that each family is unique. She has a particular passion for gender-related challenges within the law and high conflict family law cases. Natalie works with her clients to find creative solutions that best work for the family and to resolve the issues that caused the conflict.

Through her life experiences, at a young age, Natalie learned that she wanted to be a voice for change in Family and Juvenile Law, and advocate to support families through difficult times. Natalie’s strengths are listening to her clients, paying attention to detail, and presenting the case in an organized and thoughtful manner. Natalie will stand up for you and your family.

When she is not devoting time to a case, Natalie enjoys riding horses, spending time with her friends, her family, and her dog Lola.

Peggy Cochran

Legal Paraprofessional

Peggy, who has worked with us as a paralegal since 2013, recently completed the necessary education and certification tests to become an Arizona legal paraprofessional. As such, she can provide legal advice, draft and file documents and appear in court on behalf of clients.

Born and raised in Tucson, Peggy comes from a long line of Arizona natives with a little bit of Texas mixed in. Peggy is a graduate of the Flowing Wells School system and is a proud alumni of the University of Arizona. Bear Down Arizona! Peggy has worn many hats in her professional life including business management, government community relations and now the legal field.

Peggy became a certified paralegal through Pima Community College’s ABA approved paralegal program in December, 2011 and passed to National Association of Legal Assistants advanced paralegal certification in 2013. Peggy also has advanced certification as a Certified Public
Manager through Arizona State University. Peggy has worked as a family law paralegal for C. Joy Elkins, Esquire since 2013 and is happy to also include working with Christina Muir, Esquire and Natalie Cafasso, Esquire of Elkins and Muir, P.L.L.C.

Peggy is the proud mother of a 19 year old son, Harley who like so many in her family, is continuing the University of Arizona tradition as a proud Wildcat. She has two dogs Rey and Quinn who are her constant companions when she is not working
